Roundin the Bases
On Thursday, June 21st, Larry “Moe” Riddle, 61, rounded the bases of the Elizabethton Twins baseball field for the last time. A lifelong fan of the team, Moe was considered to be the Twins’ unofficial mascot. His dying wish was to be fitted in the team’s uniform and, after being laid in his casket, hit a homer in his favourite baseball stadium.
“Moe’s rounded all the bases, and this week he’s slid into home,” said the Rev. Willie Malone.
Fans lined the diamond and the Twins’ coach called him “safe” at home plate. Mourners later signed the casket.
Chris Mathes, Carter County Sheriff, named Riddle a “special deputy,” and the City of Elizabethton declared Friday “Moe Riddle Day.”
