Boiling Point
A company called Resomation Ltd in Glasgow Scotland has come up with another green alternative to burial and cremation. They have managed to speed up a naturally occurring process know as Alkaline Hydrolysis by placing the body in a water mixture that reaches 170 Celcius.
The story was picked up by The Daily Record, which referred to the process as “boiling bodies in water”. The company maintains that it is not “boiling” the bodies, they are using a chemical reaction that rapidly reduces the body to a liquid form (it takes about 30 minutes). The liquid can then be spread over the land if desired. This process does not produce the harmful fumes that are seen with cremation, and is comparable in cost.
