Pavarotti - Sounds of Heaven
Heaven’s gain is our loss, as we wave a fond farewell to the great Opera singer Luciano Pavarotti.
The great tenor lost his battle to cancer on Thursday at the age of 71, his funeral took place three days later at his hometown of Modena, Italy.
From his white maple casket, covered in sunflowers, the dulcet tones of the greats such as Andrea Bocelli’s enveloping the cathedral, to Italy’s Air Force flying over at the end of the service, releasing red, white and green smoke in the colours of the Italian flag, Pavarotti evoked the same standing ovation in death as he did in life.
Princess Diana need wait no longer, exactly ten years after the day of her own funeral, her favourite singer and friend has joined her and is no doubt serenading her as we speak.
The climax of the funeral was when a recording of the tenor and his father singing “Panis Angelicus” filled his hometown cathedral.
