The East London Guardian reports that Elton John’s music is the most popular in Redbridge funerals, followed by Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley.

My Funky Funeral is Born. Our Inspiration.

Well it all started with a funeral … my mums.

When she died a few years ago, my family and I arranged the funeral in a
type of blinded autopilot. We didn’t have a clue what she would have wanted
and to be honest, engulfed with grief, we didn’t have the strength to care.

Like so many of us, she’d joked about how she would like her final send off
to go, but she’d never written anything down, and none of us could remember
what she’d said. I did, however, know that her favourite song was Hot
Chocolate’s “ Put You Together Again” a melody about sadness and loss, but
how at the end of the tunnel there be would be light and strength. A song
that I felt was her message to us all.

So after I had made a gut wrenching speech about the goodness and
selflessness of the woman we were so proud to call our mum, I turned to a
friend whose simple task it was to press the correct number on the CD
player.

Now somehow my friend, God bless her, managed to play the wrong track and “I Believe in Miracles… You Sexy Thing” filled the church.
